If your only goal is the gravitational pull the Earth exerts on your body, then the science is increasingly clear—the "magic" of IF is largely a clever way to trick yourself into eating less.

Fasting is a form of hormesis—a beneficial stressor. Just as lifting weights creates tiny tears in muscles to make them stronger, the mild stress of a fasting window triggers a protective genetic response. It upregulates "survival genes" (like SIRT1) that help repair DNA.
A calorie-controlled diet is a slow, steady drain; fasting is a periodic, invigorating challenge. Evolutionarily, we are the descendants of people who thrived in the "hassle" of the hunt-and-fast cycle. Our genes expect the struggle.

If you find IF a miserable, soul-crushing experience that makes you obsessed with the clock, then drop it. The studies prove you aren't missing out on a weight-loss miracle.
However, if you value:

- Simplicity (not having to log every blueberry in an app).
- Longevity (the cellular repair benefits that simple calorie counting might miss).
...then the "hassle" isn't a bug; it's a feature. Don't do it for the fat loss alone; do it for the interstitial spaces it creates in your biology. Sometimes the most interesting things happen when we simply get out of our own way.
